Stargazers have been dealt with to a ‘wolf moon’ on Friday night as the initial whole moon of 2020 coincided with a lunar eclipse.

The ‘penumbral lunar eclipse’, where the moon passes as a result of the earth’s shadow, sparked a flurry of photos across social media as astronomy fans marvelled at the shiny moon.

The phenomenon sees the moon go into Earth’s penumbra, or outer shadow, triggering the earth’s normal satellite to look darker than usual.

The moon was noticed throughout the place, from rural parts to London.

Previously on Friday, Andrew Peters captured amazing scenes of the full moon environment about an ancient ridge in the picturesque Shropshire Hills.

Mr Peters’ photographs display the moon setting more than Devil’s Chair in the Stiperstones Countrywide Character Reserve just right before dawn on Friday – in advance of the Wolf Moon – and reported he thinks it is the fist time the scene has at any time been captured.

The future whole moon will take place on February nine, which is also acknowledged as snow moon.

It is thought that it will be a ‘Super Snow Moon’ – a supermoon is a new or complete moon which transpires when its orbit will take it closest to the Earth.
