Stargazers have been dealt with to a ‘wolf moon’ on Friday night as the initial whole moon of 2020 coincided with a lunar eclipse.
The ‘penumbral lunar eclipse’, where the moon passes as a result of the earth’s shadow, sparked a flurry of photos across social media as astronomy fans marvelled at the shiny moon.
The phenomenon sees the moon go into Earth’s penumbra, or outer shadow, triggering the earth’s normal satellite to look darker than usual.
In January, the comprehensive moon is in some cases labelled a “wolf” moon.
Once in a while it can change purple, dubbed a ‘blood moon’ but people hoping for these types of a phenomenon were left disappointed.

Ed Bloomer, an astronomer at the Royal Observatory Greenwich, said: “Unfortunately, we will not get one particular of those right until 2021, even though there are yet another a few penumbral eclipses to seem ahead to in 2020.”
The name ‘wolf moon’, coined by Europeans and Native People in america, comes from the howling of wolves that could be read in the depths of winter season.
Wolf moon above Peckham. The very first full moon of the ten years, coinciding with a lunar eclipse. Referred to as wolf moon by Europeans and Indigenous People in america since of the lupine howling that went on at midwinter. Aroooooo!#wolfmoon pic.twitter.com/PKlCcd3MUJ

The moon was noticed throughout the place, from rural parts to London.
Previously on Friday, Andrew Peters captured amazing scenes of the full moon environment about an ancient ridge in the picturesque Shropshire Hills.
Mr Peters’ photographs display the moon setting more than Devil’s Chair in the Stiperstones Countrywide Character Reserve just right before dawn on Friday – in advance of the Wolf Moon – and reported he thinks it is the fist time the scene has at any time been captured.
The future whole moon will take place on February nine, which is also acknowledged as snow moon.
It is thought that it will be a ‘Super Snow Moon’ – a supermoon is a new or complete moon which transpires when its orbit will take it closest to the Earth.
