Derrick Jones Jr. edges Aaron Gordon in controversial dunk contest – ESPN

CHICAGO — Miami Heat forward Derrick Jones Jr. outlasted Orlando Magic forward Aaron Gordon in a unforgettable slam dunk contest on Saturday that demanded two tiebreaker jams.

But the ultimate outcome was not with no controversy, with at minimum two judges contending afterward that they wanted the next dunk-off to close in a tie and Gordon stating he is finished taking part in the contest for the duration of NBA All-Star Weekend.

“We imagined it was heading to be tied. We were like, ‘This is a tie!'” 1 choose, hip-hop artist Typical, instructed ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne. “But somebody did not do it proper. I will not know who it is.”

“I actually felt it was an even struggle, and we, as judges, felt the scores really should be even and they should really just have a judge-off,” Common explained to Shelburne. “We had the cards. Put your card up for who experienced the very best dunks.”

Gordon assumed his dunk around Drop deserved a bigger score than he obtained.

“I did 4 straight 50s — five straight 50s,” Gordon claimed. “That is above. It can be a wrap. Let’s go dwelling. Four 50s in a row in an NBA dunk contest, it is above. But I don’t know. Who’s jogging the clearly show?”

Gordon, who also misplaced a memorable dunk contest to Zach LaVine in 2016, claimed he was accomplished with the contest.

“It’s a wrap, bro,” he said. “I feel like I should really have two trophies.”

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James was of the thoughts that Gordon and Jones each and every deserved a trophy for their attempts.

Jones, right after the contest, believed the Gordon-Drop dunk was not thoroughly easy, maybe sealing the deal for him.

“He clipped Tacko’s head, so they couldn’t give him a 50,” he claimed. “I predicted them to give him a 48 so we could go yet again.”
