PAGO PAGO, American Samoa (AP) — Wellbeing officials in the U.S. territory of American Samoa say they will begin mass measles vaccinations later on this 7 days.

At a conference Sunday, officers said the vaccinations would be offered for 7 days starting Friday. There are nine confirmed cases of measles in the island territory.

American Samoa Wellness Division Epidemiologist Dr. Aifili John Tufa suggests five of the island’s cases were being in men and women who experienced been traveling and the other folks ended up regionally transmitted.

On Friday, American Samoa formally declared a measles outbreak, a shift that shut general public educational facilities Monday and prohibits gatherings in parks.
