A few rockets make ‘direct hit’ on US Embassy in Baghdad: Report – Washington Examiner

Three rockets have hit the United States Embassy in Baghdad.

Three Katyusha rockets hit inside the compound while as quite a few as five many others landed in the space surrounding it, in accordance to reports. American defense officers explained that no one was killed in the assault, but some ended up wounded. It is unclear how severe the injuries are. A U.S. official told CNN that one rocket strike the embassy’s dining facility, resulting in harm but no fatalities.

“We are knowledgeable of studies of rockets landing in the Global Zone. We simply call on the Federal government of Iraq to fulfill its obligations to guard our diplomatic services,” a Section of Defense spokesperson informed the Washington Examiner. “We will not remark more on the stability circumstance in Baghdad.”

Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi condemned the rocket assault and purchased Iraqi security forces to “deploy, look for, and investigate to reduce the recurrence of such assaults, and to arrest people who released these rockets so that they can be punished.”

The strike comes right after a related attack on Jan. 20 when three Katyusha rockets fell near the U.S. Embassy. No injuries were described in that incident.

Stress in the Middle East has escalated in recent months given that leading Iranian common and terror leader Qassem Soleimani orchestrated a violent protest exterior of the American Embassy in Baghdad. The United States responded with a drone strike on Jan. 2 that killed Soleimani.
